TMAS Yellow Monster Course ( Age 4-5/PS-K) Art Enlightenment
This initial stage of artistic production is considered as the “Manipulative Stage” and can last through age 4 or 5 in many children. The term “Manipulative” implies a general stage of initial exploration and experimentation with any new materials. Therefore, the diversity of art courses at this stage is very important, and it is necessary to give children the opportunity and experience to use different materials to create art.
At this stage, drawing is still a natural and virtually universal activity for children, and their artworks are more like doodles and scribbles. By scribbling, children literally “make a mark on the world” in one of the earliest examples of personal causation: children come to realize in physical and visual terms that they can exercise control over their environment. Just like educator Elliot Eisner explains, it is also a source of pleasure: “ The rhythmic movement of arm and wrist, the stimulation of watching lines appear where none existed before are themselves satisfying and self-justifying. They are intrinsic sources of satisfaction.”
According to children’s physiological and psychological characteristics in this artistic development stage, TMAS yellow monster courses are divided into line, shape, space, color, value, texture, and form units according to “Elements of Art”. Each unit is divided into different creative and interesting topics, combined with using different art materials(crayon/paint/special drawing tools/clay…). It allows children to explore and experience the joy and sense of accomplishment brought by art creation activities with various art materials.
